The Christian Church of Morene

Morene

The church is located at Morene in the Central Plateau. After the rough ride to Morne Kabrit (Goat Mountain), you keep going up to Lascahobas, passing through the city of Mirebalais. The Valley of Morene somehow lies between "Morne Derdo" and "Morne Cerecite". The rich soil of Morene grows a little bit of everything: Okra, tomatoes, red and black beans, corn, and millet. Along the border of the lake of Artibonite, the farmers grow a rice of excellent quality.

Morene is part of the greater Lascahobas community, which has a population of over one hundred thousand people. Morene itself is a less important township of five thousand people. Like any other township, there is no electicity, no indoor plumbing, nor running water. Most of the men are small farmers and the women are small traders selling stuff in the market place.

The church has a membership of 130 believers, and the school about 175 students. There are five teachers for the school but ten are needed for the school to function properly. Unfortunately, GVCM can't afford more. Neither the church nor the school have buildings. The church members meet in an old hut that they have managed to put together.
