God's Light During The Nightmare
Dear Christian Friends,Special Greetings! We are so thankful and appreciative for your love and your concern, your prayers and your faithful financial support. We want to reassure you that in spite of everything else you might have heard our God is marching on. Since September 29, 2004, we have been living a nightmare in daytime. So far, more than one thousand of our countrymen have been executed. Now, the violence is taking quite a new dimension: people are being kidnapped and held for ransom. Needless to say this is a reign of terror that we have not seen for decades. Fear, anger, despair and hopelessness fill every heart. This is the shocking reality that our countrymen are living day after day. However, this reign of terror is not the result of extreme poverty or delinquency, or even an unjust sharing of the common wealth. But it is rather the political maneuvers of some manipulating the lowest instincts of others using violence as a way to make their voice heard. We are convinced that our leaders are making giant steps in the right direction. The forces of darkness shall not prevail.
Furthermore, the tropical tempest Dennis complicated Haiti’s very fragile environment. The regions of South, South East, and Grande Anse have been severely touched. Strong winds of 180 km per hour were felt in these regions, as well as torrential rains that brought flooding and desolation. The consequences are still heavily felt in these regions: At Grand-Goave alone more 23 people were killed as the bridge unifying Port-au-prince to the South collapsed. They are still searching for the missing in the debris. The river "Gran Ravine" was flooding, bringing tons of debris into people’s homes and carrying away their belongings to the ocean. In Les Cayes two casualties are reported. The river "La Ravine du Sud" was flooding. The gardens along the riverbank were destroyed and thousands of heads of livestock brought into the ocean. The same scenario in Jeremie, where casualties were reported to be 10 people carried away by flooding rivers. According to a preliminary survey, the tropical tempest Dennis left about 50 casualties, thousands of heads of livestock and gardens destroyed, and 15,000 people without a place to call home. In this atmosphere of violence and natural disaster, Global Vision Citadelle Ministries is trying hard to accomplish the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ in our generation. We still heard His voice: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" [Matt 28: 19,20 KJV] On another occasion Paul, reiterated to the young Timothy, "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; preach the Word; be in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." [2 Tim. 4:1,2 KJV] Toward this end we are working tirelessly day after day. An evangelistic campaign started just last month in La Source, Lascahobas for about one week. Several thousand people stood on foot every night to hear the Word. We had the awesome privilege to address the crowd the very last night and 22 people came forward to embrace the Gospel message. As a matter of course, the Christian Church of La Source is now being implanted in the very heart of Lascahobas.
I am so thankful for the strong leadership of brother Remy Raphael, who is such a dynamic young Christian leader who is working in Colora and at the same time expanding the vision in La Source, Lascahobas. Thanks to brother Remy’s vision and sagacity, a new church with about 60 people in attendance is now meeting three days a week at La Source. One of the greatest invitations I received this year was to go to Corvel to preach for the 12th anniversary of the church there. It was so great to see all the churches that Brother Kenold has planted throughout those years. They came from far away, from all over the upper Plateau for a week of rejoicing and celebration in the Lord. The high point for the week was to see the immersion of 15 new believers who seemed very decisive in their walk with Christ. I am so grateful to count in my team people like Brother Kenold. He is such a dynamic young preacher. Finally, I am so grateful and appreciative to you for empowering us to be part of what God is doing in Haiti. Surely it is getting ugly: tension over here … gunshots over there. On the other hand, what a awesome privilege to be God’s spokesmen in a time like this, proclaiming faithfully His word to a lost nation. In His service, Yvon |
