Fedja Orphans in Desperate Need
“Neither man nor beast should have to live under such deplorable conditions,” Rex Schilling of Shelton, Washington said when he visited this children’s orphanage in Fedja, in May 2004. Others thought so, too, and so a project was born to provide adequate housing for these orphans in the central plateau. They currently live in a small metal building with dirt floors.
Much work has been done on the new orphanage: 14 acres purchased; electricity put in; road grading and excavation done by a United Nations team; architectural plans drawn up; septic tank and drain field put in; bath house built; block making machine purchased and shipped to Haiti. This project has come far as a result of the enormous generosity of Five Oaks Community Church in Woodbury, Minnesota. Their team will arrive in Fedja on January 2, 2006, to build the first half of the orphanage.
However, Michial Mularoni, architect and project manager, informed us we need to raise an additional $30,000 in order to complete the veranda and roof—both essential for the orphans to move into their new home. If you’d like further details on the project, contact Mike at MMularoni@gvcm.org or Yves Prophete, Executive Director, at Yves@gvcm.org.
Would you help us locate other generous churches or individuals to help finish this important work? Would you be willing to make your church leaders, family and friends aware of this project and ask them to consider partnering with us? This is a significant need, but not so great that it could not be addressed if we all work together.
If you know of organizations or individuals who would be interested in helping with this orphanage project, please forward their contact information to us.
Online donations can be made at the following link and checks may be mailed to the GVCM office address at the end of this message.
