Greetings to all our friends:
We are so thankful for how God is working through the efforts of many from around the country in the lives of Haitians. GVCM is blessed with friends and supporters that help in ways too numerous to tell all the good stories. People are always asking me “What progress is being made in Haiti?” and “Are there still people living in tents?” and “What can we do to help?” Here are some answers to those questions and others:
WHAT PROGRESS IS BEING MADE IN HAITI?
- People are coming to the Lord and trusting God, many for the first time.
- Orphans are being cared for and they too are seeking Jesus.
- Our schools are teaching students how to read and write, about math and most importantly they are being influenced to seek God with their whole heart.
- The wall around the orphanage is taking shape. We need crews to finish the project by installing a cement coating over the top of the panels.
- The Virtual Classroom is moving forward – we need more funds to complete the roof.
- The deaf school building is taking shape and still in need of work crews and funding to complete it.
- We have had medical teams provide services to remote villages and at our city clinic. We expect more teams this month and next.
- A young girl from Oklahoma got excited about helping the orphan children and raised funds for a large playground toy. She not only helped raise money but a company was found that was willing to donate much of the cost of the toy. It has been shipped to Haiti and we are waiting its release from customs so it can be installed!
- Shoeboxes were gathered from around the country and shipped to GVCM. Most arrived later than planned but many have been delivered and children all over are blessed by your generosity. These pictures show some of the approximately 1500 students in Thomassique that received boxes. Many thanks go to Christie Ausley and her crew for coordinating the shoebox project.
ARE THERE STILL PEOPLE LIVING IN TENTS?
- Yes, unfortunately many are still in tent cities. Stories have been told of the terrible conditions some still live in and the stories are true. In some areas, life is slowly improving, but many are still in need of a safe place to live, regular food each day and clean water.
- We are hoping to launch our housing project in the next few months. We have purchased land, had a survey done and applied for some major grants. We are waiting for money and laborers to continue developing this project.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?
- Pray regularly for the GVCM family. Our staff, our director, the students, the orphans, and our volunteers. Groups from Seattle to Florida pray for the needs of Haiti each day. Your prayers make a difference.
- Plan a trip to Haiti: to work on a project or help equip Pastors or teach children or to serve on a medical team.
- We have recently learned of the need mandated to us by the Haitian government to provide more workers at the Orphanage. We need funds to make this possible – up to $1900 per month extra!
- We also wish to hire a pastor for the church at Fedja.
- We have the use of a warehouse in Florida to collect supplies for shipping to Haiti. You can ship your items there and as we get enough to fill a container we will ship them to Haiti.
- Monthly supporters are needed to support a child a $25 per month for a school child and $35 per month for an orphan living at the Orphanage.
- PRAY FOR THE Haitian Elections this coming weekend - Haiti needs your prayers this weekend -- Sunday, March 20th is the Haiti Presidential run-off election between former rapper, Michel Martelly, and former first lady, Mirlande Manigat. As many of you know, the past four months since the first election have seen their share of disturbances as a result of the elections. The concern is not as much for who will be President as it is for how the country will respond to the selection. Haiti needs the stability of a government the serves the best interests of its people. Pray to this end.
GVCM appreciates your faithful giving and would encourage others to help out regularly. We have so many projects that are necessary and we need your prayers and financial support. Please consider how you can be involved with GVCM in taking Jesus to people of Haiti.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP,
David Davolt President
